A collection of ascetic creations of the fathers of the 4th-XV centuries, compiled by St. Macarius, Metropolitan Corinthian (1731-1805) and edited by the Monk Nicodemus Svyatogorets (1749-1809), was first published in Greek in 1782
The Greek word kind -love (Philocaly) means: love for the beautiful, sublime, good, love of beauty, beauty. Beauty is the spiritual, which is attached to the Christian as a result of following the instructions of the fathers-papers collected in this collection. The name of the collection sounded completely as “the good -love of the sacred sober -minded people, collected from our holy and pantry fathers, in which, through an active and contemplative moral philosophy, the mind is cleared, enlightened and improved.”
In the Slavic language, Greek “kindness” was translated by the Monk Paisius Velichkovsky, and later a great work on the translation of the collection into a collection was carried out by St. Theophan the Recluse (in the world Georgy Vasilyevich Govorov, 1815-1894).
This publication was carried out according to the 1905 publication, prepared by the dependent of the Russian on the Athos of the Panteleimon Monastery.
The first volume of “kindness” includes translations of the creations of the Holy Fathers: Anthony the Great, Macarius of the Great, Abba Isaiah, Mark of the ascetic and Abba Evagria.
In the second volume of “kind -love”, translations of the creations of the Holy Fathers were included: John Kassian Roman, Ishikhiy of Jerusalem, Nile of Sinai, Ephraim Sirin, John Climacus, Rev. Varsanufi and John, Abba Dorofey and Isaac the Syernian.
The third volume of “kindness” included translations of the creations of the Holy Fathers: Diadokha Potiki, John of Karpafsky, Zosima of the Palestinian, Maximus Confessor, Avva Falassius, Theodore of the Oshessky, Rev. Theodora, Avva Filimon, Rev. Theognosta, Philofei of the Sinai, Elijah Presbyter and Ekdik.
The fourth volume of kindness consists of 335 instructions to the monks of St. Theodore Studit. But this is an invaluable book not only for the monastery fraternity, but also for the laity who will find a lot of useful things here, since the Monk Theodore Studite passes a rare teaching without touching on hell and paradise, the Last Judgment and Kingdom of Heaven. For an attentive reader, this book will serve as a source of motivation for repentance and correction of life.
In the fifth volume of kind -love, translations of the creations of the Holy Fathers were included: Simeon, the new theologian, Simeon of the reverent, St. Nikita Stephate, Feolipt, Metropolitan of Philadelphia, Gregory Sinaite, Nikifor Soloennik, Grigory Palamas, Archbishop of Solunsky, Callista Patriarch and Ignatius Ksanfopula, Simeon, Archbishop of Solunsky. The application is placed in the lives of saints: Nicodemus Svyatogorets and Makarii of Corinthian
