The publication under the general editorial of the Doctor of Economics, professor Archimandrite Philip (Simonova) gives a complete overview of the development of the Christian Church as a social institution - from the time of its formation to the present.
The first volume covers the period from the founding of the Church to the formation of the prerequisites of the Protestant Reformation - the time of acute dogmatic discussions that had significant consequences for the organizational structure of the Christian Church as an institution. The book considers the formation of the church as a public institution. Its organizational basis is become gradually recognized by the human mind and theology formalized faithful truths, defining the meaning of the Christian creed and determining the structure of the church as a universal social system, claiming to unite in their borders of the whole inhabited world, called for salvation and God -bearing.
In the second volume, in a wide historical context, issues related to the development of church orthodoxy and the formation of various deviations from it are highlighted. Throughout in this book, dogmatic discrepancies introduced an element of instability in the universalist claim of Christianity, which in the organizational sphere leads to numerous church divisions on a confessional basis.
The book tells about the search for an answer to the question that is relevant in any historical era: What and how to believe in order to be saved?
