Archbishop of Averky (Taushev) (1906-1976) is one of the greatest church figures of Russian abroad. He taught at the Holy Trinity Theological Seminary in Jordanville, the USA (the Russian Orthodox Church abroad), and then for almost a quarter century was its permanent rector.
The work of Archbishop Averkia (Tausheva) “Four Gospels. Apostle. The guide to study the Holy Scriptures of the New Testament ”was born as a course of lectures for seminarians and became a classic manual to study the New Testament for students of Orthodox spiritual educational institutions. The author’s approach is distinguished by balanced and churchness: without ignoring the achievements of modern biblicalism, the lord is based mainly on the traditional patristic interpretation of the Holy Scriptures.
In this publication, quotes from the Holy Scripture are reinstalled by the synodal translation, which became canonical in the Orthodox tradition.
