The motto of the Order of St. George “For Service and Courage”, carried out in the title, inspired thousands and thousands of heroes who honestly and faithfully served our country. Among them were military priests, not only nourishing their flock on the battlefield, but, with a cross in his hand and the name of Christ on his lips, raising Russian soldiers on the attack on the enemy. This book is dedicated to them. To date, this is the most complete collection of biographical essays of priests granted by St. George awards from the time of the establishment of the Military Order of St. George until the end of the Civil War.
The narrative is not limited to the topic of the priest in the war, the life of the heroes can be traced within the limits that allow proven biographical data. The diverse proximity of the dissimilar destinies reveals to us a detailed picture of the past, so that the reader unfolds a complex and ambiguous panorama of the public life of Russia of the XVIII-XX centuries.
The archive material, which served as the basis for the publication, was expanded by historical information, which makes the book attractive to a fairly wide audience. A significant part of the material and some illustrations are published for the first time
