The study of scripture usually consists of three key stages: observation, interpretation and application. Observation is the first stage in the study of the biblical text at which the primary data is collected and analyzed, which the interpreter notices in the passage. The purpose of the observation is to start studying the passage with determining the course of the author’s thoughts as a whole in order to first see what is on the surface and not get bogged down in a deep study of details and solving complex issues. Interpretation is the second stage in the study of Scripture, in which, using lexical and syntactic analysis, the direct author’s intention of the text is determined. Application is the third stage in the study of the Bible, in which the meaning of the text is applied to modern realities.
At the observation stage, you can use different tools: multiple reading of the text, highlighting keywords and building block diagrams. This book will be devoted to the last instrument. Block diagrams are an excellent tool that helps to look at the grammatical structure of the text and see how it develops. This type of diagram is not an interpretation in itself, but provides significant assistance in the preliminary analysis of the text
