The book “The Divine Face of Byzantium” is a collection of chosen works of the famous Russian jurist and Byzantinist Velichko A.M., which includes works on the history of the church and work on Byzantinism. In the first part, such centuries -old phenomena as papism, the split of the Church, which occurred in the XI century, the iconoclastic movement, the specifics of the relationship between the political and church authorities in Russia on the eve of the abolition of the patriarchate, the reasons for the creation of Peter the Great Synod, were subjected to detailed historical and legal analysis. The second part reveals the idea of monarchical power, as it was formulated in Byzantium, describes the legal and political forms in which it was realized, as well as the crisis of the “Symphony of the authorities” in the “late” Byzantium on the eve of its death.
