Ferapontov Monastery was founded miraculously: St. Cyril Belozersky received a revelation from God, and the monk Ferapont went to the distant Belozersky Territory, where he founded the holy monastery. The unique frescoes of the great Dionysius have been preserved here.
Ferapontov Monastery was founded in the northern lands, 120 km from Vologda, and this saved the frescoes of Dionysius. They were not “focused” and remained evidence of both the picturesque skill of the icon painter, and the immutability of his ascetic work. The frescoes of the master in the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, where he created - along with his sons - about 300 works are especially famous. They talk about the earthly life of the Virgin Mary. The plots were gleaned from the akathist of the Mother of God and give the impression of a magical picturesque action. The ensemble of the Ferapontov Monastery with the murals of Dionysius of 1502 is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List
