The diary of the headquarters captain V. M. Zeitlin is an interesting evidence of the participant in the First World War, an eyewitness to the revolutionary upheavals in Petrograd (including directly the Bolshevik coup on October 25, 1917) and one of the first Soviet military specialists. The diary reflects the state of the military units and headquarters of the Russian army in the First World War, the life of the Military Academy in late 1917 - early 1918, the first steps to create the Red Army. V. M. Zitlin pays a lot of attention to the analysis of the causes of the failures of the Russian troops, reflects on revolutionary events and processes that have changed the path of development of Russia.
