"Divine hymns" of the Monk Simeon of the New Theologian (949-1022), written in a poetic, poetic form, occupy a special place in patristic writing. Ascetic and mystic, theologian and poet, and at the same time the shepherd and teacher of life in Christ, he dared to entrust the word with his innermost and prayer experience and addressed this word not to "philosophers and sages", but to everyone who searches for meetings with a human son in the heart its own - in any field and at all times.
A sincere confession of their sinbushes and the weak, a description of extraordinary contemplations and revelations that the Monk Simeon was given, and thanks to God for the gifts and good deeds perceived from Him - this is the general content of divine hymns.
The real edition of the hymns of the Monk Simeon translated by Hieromonkh Panteleimon (Uspensky) is the third, final, volume of his creations. A detailed article of the translator, preceding the hymns, and the objective index to all three volumes, compiled by the priest Pavel Florensky, will help the reader to penetrate deeper into the spiritual world of St. Simeon and, perhaps, at least partially become his interlocutor and somolitan.
