The first book of the final volume of the complete works and letters of K. N. Leontyev reveals the events of one of the most important and fruitful periods in Leontiev’s life. On the one hand, it was a time of summing up the results (in 1884 he began to work on the lifetime collection of articles - the collection “East, Russia and Slavicism”), as well as the acquisition of the first students (a circle of “heptastilists”), on the other - the beginning of a new life cycle (foster and moving to Optina Deserts) and a new plan associated with him (“Notes of the Hermit” were started in Optina in the fall of 1887) The book presents 245 letters, a significant part of which was never published or printed with large bills and distortions. The book is accompanied by detailed historical and literary comments and an index of names.
