Saint Nikolai Serbsky (Velimirovich, 1880 - 1956) is unconditionally the most vivid and large -scale person in the recent history of the Balkans. The greatest Serb of the 20th century, he reminds us of the old ones, today, unfortunately, the forgotten truths, with all his life, are steadily testifying that genuine love for the Lord and serving him is inconceivable without familiarization with the God -given values of national life. Contemporaries called his sermons “fable” and said that “since the time of St. Savva, the Serbian land did not know the shepherd of such an intellectual and moral power.” Long before the official canonization (May 2003), the people"s veneration of the saint, noted by many wonderful phenomena, spread widely. Believing in a special mission of Slavs, St. Nicholas, following the Monk Seraphim, predicted the coming greatness of the Orthodox kingdom, in which there would be a place for the “kingdom of Holy Russia” and the “kingdom of the Balkan peoples”. And he expressed hope that their example would inspire and restore the fallen and scolded Europe, the once beloved daughter of the Savior.
