The book was based on lectures given by the author in a number of educational institutions. The author believes that without the canonical law of the ancient Church (“I began”) it is pointless to talk about any tradition in canonical law. Western and eastern traditions have a common canonical core - the right of an ancient church. The Russian reader interested in this problem is more familiar with the fundamental studies of the church law of the Russian Orthodox Church, but the heritage of Western church law continues to be Terra Incognita for Russia. Therefore, the sphere of issues considered in this book includes the Western tradition of canon law
