The great canon of St. Andrew, the Archbishop of Cretan, has exceptional significance in the spiritual life of Orthodox Christians and in Christian liturgical art. The real poetic arrangement of the canon was made by Archpriest Vitaly Golovatenko not from Slavic translations containing errors and inaccuracies, but from his critical text, created on the basis of the ancient (IX-XIII centuries) lists from Greek-Byzantine manuscripts. Each stanza is commented with a detailed explanation of the biblical basis and fundamental theological concepts and objects of the text. For this reason, this publication is the first Russian-speaking scientific and popular commentary of the Grand Canon of St. Andrew Crete. Also in the publication in the poetic and prosaic arrangements with comments, additional liturgical texts are presented, traditionally complementing the canon: Kondak and ICOCE after the 6th song of the canon, exapostilary after the 9th, stanzas dedicated to Rev. Maria Egyptian and the author of the canon, Sinaxar (educational reading after the 6th song), the Life of St. Maria of Egypt and the stichera of the canon of the Great. In addition, it was translated into the Russian language of the most complete ancient life of the author of the canon, also equipped with a detailed commentary
