Photo album A. Terentyev “Buddhism in Russia - Tsarist and Soviet”, continuing the exhibition of the state. The Museum of the History of the Gulag “Repressed Buddhism” is a collection of 454 old photographs, from the end of the 19th century to the Gorbachev “perestroika”. Placed in the context of a historical narrative, photographs make it possible to touch the forgotten by the life of Russian Buddhism, to see for their own dozens of the old churches of Buryatia, Kalmykia and Tuva, to look into the eyes of outstanding spiritual teachers of the past.
As in a magic mirror, old photos show us the heyday of Buddhism in Russia, where by 1917 there were about 150 Buddhist monasteries and more than 20,000 clergymen dressed in burgundy clothes of the monks of the Tibetan tradition. Then, in the same mirror of inconstancy, we see how all the monasteries are closed, destroyed, and Buddhist monks shoot or put in prisons ... After the Great Patriotic War, Buddhism reanimate with the help of the few lamas survived in the Stalinist camps, and the dharma"s luminaire smolders in two small ones in two small ones The monasteries of Buryatia to erupt with renewed vigor after the collapse of Soviet totalitarianism in 1988-1989.
