In recent decades, many new ways to interpret the Bible have arisen. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. In this book, the teachers of the Rigent College have combined their efforts to develop an interdisciplinary approach, which will enrich our understanding of the Bible.
In the first two chapters, history and canon are considered as contexts for interpretation of the Bible. The third is devoted to the educational and protective role of theology in the reading of the Bible. From the fourth chapter we will receive an important lesson in the sociology of knowledge and learn to understand how various public groups interpret the Bible in their interests.
Chapter Five - an overview of modern secular hermeneutics from Heidegger and Nietzsche to Foucault and Derrida - debunk the postmodern views that deny the existence of truth. The final chapter emphasizes that the purpose of reading the Bible is not scholarship for the sake of scholarship, but the righteous life and acquisition of the Holy Spirit
