The Bible educational publication is the most important stage in the works of the Russian biblical society over the consolidated Russian translation of the Holy Scriptures, the purpose of which is to bring the multimillion -dollar audience of our Russian -speaking contemporaries to understanding the Word of God.
The work of such a scale in our country has not been carried out for more than a century, since in 1904-1913. The eleven -volume “Explanatory Bible” was printed, in which introductory articles and comments accompanied the synodal translation of the Holy Scriptures. That publication was initiated by the professor of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy A.P. Lopukhin (1852–1904) and then continued by his successors.
In the years when atheism dominated in our country, the works that received in the 1970s began to be undertaken among Russian emigrants. His completion in the “Bible with comments and applications”, published by the Russian -speaking Catholic publishing house “Life with God” (Brussels) Experts from the USSR were also involved in this work, the most famous of which was Archpriest Alexander Men (1935–1990), later one of the founders of the revived RBO. The Brussels Bible, as readers began to call this publication, was published abroad in 1973, 1983 and 1989, and since 2004 it has published it in a somewhat processed form in Russia of the RBO.
It should be noted that from the very beginning of work on the modern Russian translation of the Bible in 1996, biblical books also prepared comments and other explanatory materials for their translations.
In 2006, the educational publication of the New Testament was already published in the translation “Joyful News”, comments and other explanatory materials for which V.N. Kuznetsova were prepared. In 2012, the second, processed publication of this work, which was included in the real educational publication of the Bible as its important component, was published.
The first edition of the modern Russian translation was published in 2011. In 2015, the second, processed and supplemented publication of the SCP containing significant editorial amendments was published. So, for example, significant changes in comparison with the initial option underwent the translation of Psaltiri.
Immediately after the release of the first edition of the Bible in the modern Russian translation, the RBO board was set to prepare its educational publication. To carry out this task, intensive work was carried out to create, expand and edit the body of explanatory materials to the translation of books of the Old Testament. These works continued until 2017, and their results became the second important component of this publication
