The first references to the Feodorov icon of the Mother of God belong to the small town of Gorodets. But in 1239, Gorodets was burned by the Mongol-Tatars, and the image disappeared. However, soon he was miraculously discovered by the younger brother of Alexander Nevsky, Prince Vasily Kostroma. Pursuing the beast on the hunt, he accidentally noticed an icon on the pine tree. He tried to take her off, but she climbed the air. Returning to the city, the prince spoke about what he saw the clergy. Arriving at the indicated place, the priests and people saw the image of the Mother of God. They prayed in front of her on her knees for a long time. And only then they removed from the tree. And then solemnly placed in the Cathedral Church of the city of Kostroma. The icon was called Theodorovskaya in memory of the appearance of Theodore Stratilat with an icon, which later was Russian soldiers on the battlefield. At the place of finding the icon, the first monastic monastery on Kostroma land was founded-the Spaso-Zaprudnikovsky Monastery. During the stay of Theodor"s icon in Kostroma, many miracles occurred, and in 1613 she went down in history in connection with the election of Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov to the kingdom. In the Ipatievsky monastery, the Embassy of the Zemsky Cathedral for a long time and unsuccessfully persuaded Mikhail Fedorovich and his mother, the monk Marfu, to accept the election to the kingdom. For all prayers, they remained adamant. And only the speech of the Ryazan Archbishop Theodorite, who trusted in the aid of the Blessed Virgin Mary, bowed Martha to bless her son. She fell before the Theodor"s icon and said: “May your will be, mistress! I betray my son in your hands: instruct him on the true path, for the good of yourself and the Fatherland! ” Since that time, the image of the Feodorovsky Mother of God has been especially revered by all representatives of the Romanov House. Many Russian queens and princesses of foreign origin received the middle name of Fedorovna in honor of the family icon. Today, the Theodor"s Icon of the Mother of God is located in the Kostroma of the Epiphany-Anastasian Cathedral
