The icon of the Mother of God, called the “Seeker of the Bread”, was written with the blessing of the elder of the Vvedensky Optina Desert of Ishimonakh Ambrosius (23.XI. 1812 - 10.x.1891) Father Ambrose, the great Russian ascetic of the 19th century, flashed the children"s faith in the Mother of God. He especially honored all the Mother of God holidays and in these days exacerbated the prayer. The icon “The Seeker of the Bread” Father Ambrose blessed the Shamordine female monastery founded by him near the Optina Desert in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
On this icon of God the Mother is depicted sitting on the clouds. Her hands are open to a blessing. Below is a compressed field, and on it among herbs and flowers there are and lies of rye. Elder Ambrose himself indicated the day of the festivities - October 15 and called the image of the “spinning of the bread”, indicating that the Blessed Virgin Mary is “an assistant to people in their writings to worship the daily bread”. Before his blessed death, Father Ambrose ordered in many photographs from this icon and distributed and sent them to his spiritual children.
