The main subject of hagiology is spiritual perfection, holiness. This theological discipline studies the lives of saints in order to establish types of holiness, their spiritual characteristics in the national, geographical and historical aspects.
The course of lectures has been prepared at the faculty of additional education of the PSTU, where hagiology has been taught since 2005 as part of the Professional Retraining Program "Theology" and as a separate short -term continuing education course.
The publication is intended for students of spiritual schools, teachers and listeners of the programs of basic theological education, implemented as part of the departments of theology, spiritual and educational centers, theological courses, teachers of Orthodox gymnasiums and Sunday schools, as well as for all those who are interested in hagiology. The book can serve as an additional source of information in the study of the history of the church and the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, to be used in sermons and missionary work.
