Arnobius (senior, or African, c. 330. E) - the famous rhetoric in Numidia (North Africa), one of the most remarkable and ancient writers of the Western Church. His famous apology "against the Gentiles" (Adversus Nationals) in seven books, according to Blazh. Jerome, was written approx. 300 g, when he became a Christian, in the form of religion of the bishop who was baptized. The apology fully reflects the complex intellectual and cultural atmosphere of the Roman Empire of the time of transition from paganism to Christianity, with some features of the mosaic North African culture, in particular, neoplatonic and Gnostic ideas are clearly traced in the apology. The new translation of this work was made by the Doctor of Historical Sciences V. M. Tylenev, already known for his translations of works by Lactance and Pavel Orozia, is equipped with an entrance article, detailed comments and a list of abbreviations, takes into account the main achievements of modern European and Russian science in the field of late antiquity, and ..
