Thomas Kempi (1379 - 1471) - a Catholic theologian, a minister of a monastery in Agnetenberg, a writer, adherent of the spiritual movement "New piety" and a member of the fraternity of a common life ".
The ideal of the assimilation of Christ life has long been an important element of Christian theology and ethics. But over time, many early Christian traditions were buried under the external splendor of the late Middle Ages. And in response to this, a book appeared that stood in the number of reprints in second place after the Bible.
A treatise "on the imitation of Christ" was created in the community of "new piety", which advocated a return to the original practices of Christian teachings and cleansing the Bible from centuries -old layers.
In the treatise, Thomas Kempiy criticizes external piety practiced by the monks, and calls for the acquisition of the inner world through self -denial
