Reineke - the fox

"Reineke Fox" is a satirical poem by the famous German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832), created by him in 1793 based on a French medieval epic. The author of the poem skillfully mocks feudal society. Under the masks of a bear, a wolf, a badger, and other animals and birds, representatives of various social classes are hidden - from courtiers to peasants. At the center of the narrative is the cunning fox, capable of getting out of any trouble and cleverly deceiving even the king. This edition presents the poem in a prose retelling with a full set of illustrations by Heinrich Leutemann and some works by Wilhelm Kaulbach and Joseph Wolf. The book also includes the French version of the epic with illustrations by Benjamin Rabier.
