“No one in the sky” is a combination of artistic and documentary. Remaining in the territory of literature, we emphasize the importance and relevance of real military history. We combined these two languages, two worlds, two halves of the book to synthesize a new way to talk about why it is now especially difficult to choose words. Ksenia Buke wrote 33 echoing stories about different people, military and civilian, occupied and evacuated, men and women, children and old people, Soviet and German, Polish and American. All chapters appeared as a result of the processing of many real memories and diaries of Soviet, German, American participants and witnesses of war. Real situations, the details of life of that time cannot be invented, they can only be found. All characters are fictional, but their voices are real. Arthur Bondar chose 113 photos from his huge collection. These are documentary personnel, they do not serve as illustrations, but, placed in the context of artistic prose, develop in a parallel narrative. Some of the photographs have the author and the background, some are anonymous, some can be said about some to an hour when they were made, but you can only make assumptions about others. This is a huge amount of documentary evidence that must see the light - this is how the idea of a book about the war with real personnel was born.
