The myth of the "struggle for independence", which Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians were led by the banners of the Third Reich against “Bolshevism”, became the dominant ideology in the Baltic states - especially in Latvia and Estonia in the 1990s. During the war years, collaborators of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania stated that they defend their sovereignty. Is it so? Why did the Baltic "independence fighters not rose to the armed struggle against the Nazi invaders? Why didn"t they fight side by side with the Soviet partisans, despite ideological disagreements? What independence in the Nazi regime could we talk about? Who were the true owners of the Baltic collaborators? These and other issues are explored in his book by historian M.Yu. Rat.
