The collection includes evidence of persons who became eyewitnesses of red terror in Russia, proclaimed by the Bolsheviks in September 1918 as an official state policy. These people, belonging to different classes and professions, managed to survive, leaving the country covered by revolutionary troubles. Already in the first years of emigration, they wrote about the experience. Part of the materials presented was published in various emigrant publications in the 1920s. The collection also includes previously not published evidence that the historian S.P. Melgunov was sent and stored in his collection in the archive of the Guver Institute of War, Revolution and the World (Palo Alto, USA).
