The book by a well-known representative of the group of leaders of large industrial enterprises of the Soviet era is dedicated to the people who contributed to the creation and growth of the industrial power of the state. All of them headed the most important enterprises in the country - the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Combine, the Leningrad and Chelyabinsk Kirov Plants, the Chelyabinsk, Sinarsky, and Volzhsky Pipe Plants, the Stalingrad (Volgograd) Metallurgical Plant 'Krasny Oktyabr', and other vital economic facilities. Their names became legendary during their lifetime, and many of them were called people's directors in labor collectives and cities as a sign of the highest, nationwide recognition. The author not only considers it necessary to pay tribute to the memory and deep respect for these individuals but also believes that their experience, along with a thoughtful analysis of the achievements and shortcomings of the Soviet economy, will help overcome many complex problems of Russia's current economic development.
