One of the authors of the books included in the collection 'How to Prevent a 'Railway War' called it a sketch or a quick and understandable work of the pen, which should explain to the commanders and listeners of the military schools of the Red Army the mechanism of railway operations in wartime. In 10 years, this mechanism will be tested in practice and will not fail. The authors presented in the collection decided to present in a 'simpler and more popular' way the features of the operation of 'normal' and 'portable (field)' tracks in wartime from the point of view of types of military transportation, typical compositions used, and railway operation support. Five main types of transportation in wartime are relevant today, and the military significance of railways in Russia is obvious.
