In the 19th and 20th centuries, during the era of nation-states, colonial conquests, and imperialist powers (with liberal, communist, fascist ideologies), reflection on "race" was one of the most active, influential, and problematic currents in the public thought of several countries. This collection publishes the texts of reports read at the international conference on the history of racial representations, which took place in Moscow, at the Russian State University for the Humanities, in May 2012. Specialists from Russia, France, and Germany participated in it. Articles by foreign authors are published in Russian translation. For students and specialists in the history of France and Russia, in intellectual history, and the history of the humanities.
