The monograph is dedicated to a low-prospecting problem in the methodological science. In recent decades, folklore literally broke into the practice of literary reading in elementary school, is actively used in the system of extracurricular work. All this undoubtedly causes lively discussions among teachers, methodists, authors of textbooks, teachers. In such a context, the following tasks become particularly significant: from the new positions to consider the path traveled by the methodology, it is critical to comprehendly accumulated by the Russian elementary school experience of teaching oral folk art for all the time of its existence, to relate this experience with phenomena occurring in modern pedagogical science and practice. Without claiming the exceptional completeness of the disclosure of all aspects of the designated problem, the author considers the most pressing historical issues, within which the accounting of past pedagogical experience turns out to be very significant for the modern educational process.
