This book refers to a typical monastic genre that has formed in the Byzantine literature in V c. and reached his heyday in the VII-VIII centuries. In the original, the book was written by the name of St. Caesaria Naziazine, but its actual authorship was not specified. Most likely, she was written by the monk of the Constantinople Monastery Akimton, who hip his authorship under the name of the brother of St. Grigory Theologian. Most researchers date the text VI.
