The proposed edition is the third volume of the fundamental work by the well-known French physicists C. Cohen-Tannoudji, B. Diu, and F. Laloë 'Quantum Mechanics'. In terms of the breadth of coverage of the material presented and the detail of the mathematical apparatus, these books have no equal among all known publications and serve as a universal textbook for students and postgraduates at various levels of education. They have been translated into many languages, including Russian. This volume is written in the authors' characteristic style: a detailed explanation of all stages of reasoning and calculations using specific interesting examples and analysis of experimental results. The book is primarily addressed to physicists or chemists already familiar with the basic principles of quantum mechanics. The first part of this volume presents methods for studying ensembles of identical particles in the formalism of creation and annihilation operators, field operators, and specifically uses the Hartree-Fock equations for fermions and the Gross-Pitaevskii equations for bosons. The basics of the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) theory for fermions and the Bogoliubov theory for bosons are provided. The second part of the third volume is dedicated to the quantum theory of electromagnetic radiation, within which spontaneous emission, multiphoton transitions, and several other important aspects of the interaction of atomic ensembles with radiation fields are considered. Many modern experimental methods are analyzed in detail, such as optical pumping, laser cooling of quantum systems, and atom trapping by laser beams. The final chapter pays special attention to the concept of quantum entanglement and the importance of accounting for correlations using examples of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox and Bell's theory. Each chapter is accompanied by a series of supplements discussing examples of practical applications, with particular emphasis on modern achievements in laser optics. The book contains an extensive bibliography of original works, monographs, and textbooks and is well-illustrated. This originally and clearly written book by French scientists will be of interest to a wide range of readers. It will be highly beneficial to students of all physics and mathematics specialties and to anyone with a serious interest in modern quantum mechanics.
