On January 27, 1837, Pushkin was mortally wounded in a duel by Lieutenant Georges d'Anthes of the Cavalier Guard regiment. The history of this duel is shrouded in a dense veil of myths and legends. Is it fair to believe that he was destroyed by a monstrous conspiracy involving the imperial family and the highest society? Is it true that Pushkin's genius declined at the end of his brilliant career? He endured a heavy family drama, exacerbated by many misfortunes. The poet could not bear the oppression of censorship, was deprived of the opportunity to control his own life and leave the capital, and was distressed by debts. Pushkin had no other way out but the duel, and thus he settled scores with life? Or was it all different? These and other questions are answered by the famous Russian historian, a scholar with a worldwide reputation, Ruslan Grigoryevich Skrynnikov.
