The psychotherapy of alcohol dependence cannot be simultaneously or occur somewhere outside the cure relationships" therapist - patient. At each stage of advancement to recovery, only those interventions that correspond to the patient’s resources, the possibilities of the therapist and the supportive qualities of the environment are effective and acceptable. The patient’s resource is largely determined by the level of his personal functioning, a personal choice and motivation to change the existing state of affairs. The therapist’s resource is determined by his understanding of the dynamics of the patient"s condition, an interest in cure, the ability to use the analysis of the countertransference and organize a supportive environment for the patient and himself.
In the leadership, the authors dwell on 145 therapeutic methods and approaches to the treatment of alcohol dependence, most of which belong to scientific methods with proven effectiveness. The structure of the book reflects the sequence of stages of the continuous therapeutic process. The publication gives illustrations and algorithms of psychotherapeutic work, as well as the statements of famous alcohol writers, drawn up in the form of feedback.
