The article “Present and Future”, also known as “Unknown Self”, is one of the few works by Jung addressed to a wide circle of readers. Observing the suppression of the individual with mass psychology in the present (the article was written in 1957) and anticipating the strengthening of this trend in the future, Jung considered it his duty to warn humanity about the danger that threatens him and outline possible ways of survival in a society that washed out all personality.
