The book is devoted to one of the most mysterious problems of psychology, namely the problem of the existence of attention as a separate mental process. Despite the one and a half centuries of discussion, the question remains open. The book combines a number of theoretical and experimental studies of the audience attention of a person, performed in line with the constructivist approach to cognition, and leads bridges between cognitive psychology on the one hand and cultural and activity psychology on the other. Empirical studies presented in the book are grouped around the so -called "effect of the superiority of the word" described in psychology at the end of the nineteenth century and consisting in increasing the effectiveness of identification of individual letters in the word compared to their isolated presentation or the appearance of random alphanum lines in the composition. In our studies, this effect was studied in a wide range of attention tasks
