The book “The Motive of Atonement in Fairy Tales: Psychological significance” of the Swiss psychoanalyst, followers of Jung M.-L. von Franz, glorified by his studies in the field of folklore and mythology, was first published in 1980. As in the case of many other works of this author, this book is based on the material of the course of lecture, read by von Franz in 1956 at the Institute named after K.G. Jung in Zurich. Based on the main idea of Jungian psychoanalysis, associated with the concept of a collective unconscious and archetypes inhabiting it, the author gives the rich material of fairy tales and myths of various peoples of the world, considering it as a result of the work of a collective unconscious, in order to try to comprehend the problems of an individual psyche and find possible ways to solve them.
