R. Fairburn (1889 - 1964) - together with M. Klein and D. Winnikott - is one of the founders of the theory of object relations, in which the development of the personality is based on the experiences of the baby in his early relationships within the family environment, and not on the discharge of intensive stresses, generated exclusively within the individual, as was characteristic of classical Freudian psychoanalysis. He replaced the point of view of the science of the 19th century, which studied the closed system, the concepts of the open system, in which the contribution of the concomitant environment all the time had to take into account.
