The book "New Roads in Psychoanalysis" is the most daring and therefore, probably, the most scandalously known work of Karen Horney, who cost her membership in the American psychological association for trying to doubt the infallibility of orthodox psychoanalysis.
The reason for the rethinking of Freud"s theory in that part, which inevitably explained the nature of neurosis by the action of only instinctive and genetic factors, became, according to K. Horney herself, its dissatisfaction with therapeutic results during the period of fifteen -year medical practice.
Analysis of the causes of these failures made me look at the problems of patients in a new way, first assume, and then establish themselves in the thought that the environment, life conditions can not only modify, but also form the nature, provoke the development of neurotic conflicts
