The war accompanied humanity at all stages of its existence. Different reasons (mainly territorial and ideological disputes) served as reasons, and the methods of conducting military operations were guided by the principle "who is stronger is right." In the world wars, the arms race was obvious when the warring forces improved weapons, and ordinary soldiers, paramedally, were sometimes only a kind of exchange coin: recruits replaced the dead. And it was precisely on their combat mood, strength of mind, excerpt that the victory often depended, even with the obvious advantage of the enemy. Where did people draw strength - sincere and physical, daily seeing the horrors of war and the death of their combat comrades? And why most of them, upon returning from the front, suffered from incomprehensible depression, which only after a long time became the object of attention of psychologists and deserved a thorough study, received by the post -traumatic stress disorder? This was the merit of military psychology, which several years ago celebrated its century.
Nowadays, it is especially relevant, because in modern wars sophisticated techniques are used, the purpose of which is not to kill the enemy, but to break it psychologically. Now the victory does not get that on the account of whom there are more victims (not counting, of course, extreme cases of suicide bombers), and those who are technologically fed and skillfully waging an information war, replenishing their ranks with new adherents with the help of brainwashing. That is why modern soldiers and officers, in addition to physical training, are so necessary for psychological preparation that will help them steadfastly go through all the tests of the war and recover from them to return to their usual life.
Perhaps the time will come when war as a way of solving disputes will take into the past. In the meantime, the reality is different, and we hear with a frightening frequency about new military conflicts, we should pay tribute to the science of military psychology, which is aimed at finding the least psychologically costly ways to cope with military realities - both during the war and at its end
