These letters are direct evidence of a deeply fruitful and, ultimately, tragic meeting of Freud and Jung. The degree of tragedy, however, is hidden only in the meeting, in the drama of the letters themselves, moving almost a classic way to the omen of the disaster of conflict and split. It can hardly be said that the career and life of both have tragically changed, rather Freud and Jung, both removed the creative fruit from an inevitable gap.
Despite the courteous and kind mention of a friend in published work, when they were employees, and all that they wrote about their relations after the break, the letters carry the most vivid evidence of the complex interaction of these unique personalities, so excellent, but so much Strongly stretching to each other. The dialogue inevitably requires an analytical and psychoanalytic interpretation, philosophical reflection on its beginning, consequences and “meaning”, weighing attacks, projections, generosity, outbreaks of wisdom, fruitful grains and everything else that can be laid on the scales. The study of correspondence in this direction, however, was rejected by the sons of these two figures, who, concluding an agreement on the publication of letters, prudently stipulated that they will be considered as historical documents ... to guarantee impartiality
