In the work of the famous German sociologist Nilels Luman (1927-1998), it is shown how the general theory of self -referential autopathic systems developed by the author can be applied to the analysis of one of the functionally differentiated systems of modern society, namely, to the education and education system. The presented interpretation of education occupies an intermediate place between the first appeal of Luman to this topic in the book of reflection in the education system (1979) and its final work "Educational Society" (2002) written in conjunction with K. E. Shorr.
