Cesare Lombroso is the largest Italian philosopher-positivist, psychiatrist and professor of forensic medicine. The central theme of his main work “Brilliant and insanity” was the idea of a born criminal. Lombroso believed that crimes were committed by people with a set of certain external data and psychological characteristics. Being the ancestor of the original concept of creativity as a combination of pathological states, Lambozo explained inspiration as an unreasonable use of mental energy, which gives rise to original results and promotes the progress of culture. His ideas and scientific research had a significant impact on the development of such sciences as criminology, psychopathology of creativity and positivist anthropology. All texts are equipped with detailed comments and clarifications of the professor of the Russian State Humanitarian University A.V. Markova
