The Church Slavonic dictionary was compiled by Archpriest A. Svirilin in 1893. Before the revolution of 1917, it was used in church-parish schools and spiritual schools as a textbook and went through more than 7 editions. The dictionary was intended for reading the Gospel, Psalms, Horologion, and Educational Octoechos. It is characterized by simplicity of presentation and accessibility to a wide range of readers. In addition to explaining the meanings of Church Slavonic words, it provides some historical and geographical information about events, objects, and figures of Sacred History.
