The first Czechoslovak Republic, having lasted only twenty years, left an interesting cultural and political heritage, about which there are still debate. What was the interwar Czechoslovakia - a democratic "bastion" in the center of Europe or a state based on national oppression? The embodiment of the right of nations to self -determination or doomed to death by the brainchild of the Versailles system? The interwar Czechoslovakia is represented in the book as an ideological "project", and its political history is considered through the prism of the conflict of ideologies - ethnonationalism and the ideas of the "political nation", liberal humanism and totalitarian teachings. As a result, the "case" of Czechoslovakia appears as a "laboratory" to study the processes taking place in young states that arose on the fragments of the empire
