The manual covers modern views on the microbiocenosis of the intestine and other biotopes of the macroorganism. It shows the role of the microbiota in maintaining health and developing intestinal and other systemic diseases. Modern methods for assessing its condition are presented, with an evaluation of the possibilities and costs of diagnostic tools. The evolution of means for correcting microbiocenosis disorders is considered. The main focus of the manual is on means of correcting microecological disorders: probiotics, prebiotics, metabiotics. Definitions are given, requirements for these groups of drugs are outlined, their modern classifications, mechanisms of action, and current recommendations for use are provided. A separate chapter is dedicated to the clinical effectiveness of drugs modulating intestinal microbiocenosis from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine for various diseases.
