The manual is the final part of a scientific and methodological complex, the basis of which is the author's textbook "History of Russian Literature of the 18th Century." The main goal of the manual is to show the picture of genre, generic, and imagery-thematic modifications of Russian literature of the pre-romanticism era at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries in the context of the general historical-literary process of that time. It also involves the context of preceding (baroque and some styles of ancient Russian literature) and subsequent (romanticism of the 19th century, symbolism at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries) literary development. The appendices include: a consolidated list of scientific literature on the problems of the history and theory of pre-romanticism, proposed topics for possible written assignments, a corpus of major literary works of Russian pre-romanticism at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries, as well as a series of exemplary samples of Russian pre-romantic lyric poetry (including in the context of their comprehensive analysis). The manual is intended for undergraduate and graduate students of philological specialties in universities studying historical-literary courses on the "History of Russian Literature of the 18th Century" and "History of Russian Literature of the first half of the 19th century." The manual can also be recommended to postgraduates, applicants, and anyone interested in the history of Russian literary culture at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries.
