The proposed manual is dedicated to the nature of power of mass media and communication over a vast audience, as well as the phenomenon of freedom in journalistic work. It examines the genetic connection of the main types of modern journalism with three ancient literary genres - epic, lyric, and drama. Interactive resources of media texts are analyzed. The issues of self-regulation (internal freedom and the ability to 'rule oneself') of Russian media are discussed. A section on journalism in cyberspace has been rewritten. For students and teachers of humanities faculties and departments at universities.
