The book describes the evolution of surgical and medical treatment methods for a relatively new nosological form of disease - postoperative sternomediastinitis, which has emerged against the backdrop of the rapid development of cardiothoracic surgery and the spread of intrahospital multidrug-resistant microflora. For elderly patients with severe comorbidities who are successfully operated on by cardiothoracic surgeons, a three-stage surgical treatment option for postoperative sternomediastinitis has been tested, allowing to avoid life-threatening complications after radical sanitation of the primary septic focus in the anterior mediastinum. The potential of combining surgical approach and vacuum therapy in the sanitation of post-sternotomy wounds is demonstrated, as well as the combination of antibiotics and bacteriophages in combating antibiotic-resistant pathogenic flora. This publication is intended for cardiothoracic, plastic, and military surgeons, intensivists, specialists in surgical infection, as well as medical students and residents.
