Who is not interested, how did his house look like 100 years ago? This is if you are lucky and you live in an old, survived a lot of house. But the city is our big house, every corner of which is interesting to us, and the more interesting than his historic center.
Each of us in our hometown has your favorite corners, and guests of the city are photographed against the background of iconic architectural objects, without which it is difficult to present this city. Ekaterinodar-Krasnodar would lose his face without "home with green bricks", the Catherine Cathedral, without a Shukhov tower, without one-story building of even central streets.
Fortunately, despite the Liphethenets of the 20th century, including architectural and town-planning: the destruction of temples in the 20s, destruction during the Great Patriotic War, partial reconstruction of the Krasnodar Center in the 60-70s - Ekaterinodar Krasnodar recognizable: now, as in the past.
The earliest reliable images of the Cossack Capital belong to the last years of the XIX century. This is postcards with the views of the city. As a type of postal shipment cheaper than ordinary postcard letters appeared in Russia in 1872. From the 1895th postcards began to illustrate. Almost immediately they became the object of collecting. Types of Russian cities (first of the capitals, then - the provinces) became, as in other countries of the world, a benefit on practical geography for contemporaries and a valuable historical and architectural and urban source for us, distant descendants.
On postcards depicted different objects. General views of the city, administrative, public buildings, churches, parks and squares, central and outdoor streets and squares, scenes of the everyday life of the city ... One quality for all works of photographers of the beginning of the 20th century was one quality: high technical and artistic level of images. This allows a qualified researcher to use postcards as a full-fledged historical source, and not just as a fleeting memory.
As a native of a tourist country, flooded images "for memory", Italian Gianni Rodari:
Postcards, glossy,
Sold out foreigners.
Milan with the famous cathedral.
Rome: Capitol, Dome, Forum.
Naples with sea and volcano,
Where to go from smoke Sultan.
Here is a pisa with its ever
Inclined - falling - tower.
Here is Genoa with the naval harbor
And with a ship walking in swimming ...
And what is hidden inside -
You look at the postcard.

In this book, the reader is invited to look at the images of the old Ekaterinodar, to find out how our ancestors lived, what works were the arrangement of the provincial capital, which personalities are worthy of our grateful memory
