The publication proposed to the reader is the result of the author"s many years of work at the State Museum of Ceramics and "Manor Kuskovo XVIII century". The book represents the first experience of a generalizing study of a collection of portraits of the manor of a cousovo, collected by several generations of Sheremetev"s graphs. In the album catalog, the problem of the fundamental study of private artistic assemblies as the phenomena of Russian culture and art is treated for the modern history of art.
The study was carried out on an extensive actual material: critical assessments and conclusions from the outcome of the many years of research work of the employees of the Kuskovo Museum, the results of consultations with leading art historians and experts of Moscow and St. Petersburg, technical and technological research, a variety of archival documents, Detected and identified by the author, their comparisons with preserved portraits.
Based on a wide range of sources, recreated historically reliable and complete picture of the composition of the collection, the main stages and features of its formation are traced.
The results of the study became the opening of new authors and unknown works, confirmation of the previously expected attributions, clarification of schools and dating of a series of cloths, determining models, details of their costume and orders. All this made it possible to carry out the graphic reconstruction of the historic portrait gallery "Kuskovo", to identify the specifics of the meeting, to determine its place among the Russian private collections of painting of the XVIII century, for the first time to make a scientific catalog of portraits.
Skusovo is one of the most famous Russian estates, and its owners and their richest collections have repeatedly attracted the attention of researchers. Nevertheless, I want to hope that this book will clearly present the reader "Unknown about the famous", opening new faces in the artistic biography of Kuskov.
Album-catalog will be useful and interesting not only to art historians, historians, archivists, cultivologists, genealogs and other specialists, but also a wide range of lovers of domestic history and culture
